Developing a skincare routine is important for everyone. Our skin is our largest organ and can be exposed to hundreds if not thousands of toxins a day! We are wonderfully unique and so is our skin. We may not need to use the same products but we should follow the same basic order. There are many different skin types and what may give someone glowing skin, may cause problems in another. The key is listening to what your skin is telling you and giving it what it needs to be healthy and radiant.
In the morning, wet your face with lukewarm water. Apply cleanser and gently massage in circular, upward motions. Rinse skin and leave wet or pat dry with clean towel. Not all skin types need to use a cleanser in the morning but if you do, make sure you choose a gentle cleanser.
Exfoliating is a step that does not happen every day. Each skin type has different needs when it comes to how often you should be exfoliating. Mechanical exfoliation uses a scrubber or a brush while chemical exfoliation uses a specific product. Frequency and type of exfoliation is dependent on skin type. Once a month or once every few days may be suitable, but do not over exfoliate your skin.
Toners have gotten a bad rap over the years because of their tendency to over dry the skin. Our toner is alcohol free with nourishing aloe, glycerin, and rosewater, making it safe for all skin types. Sensitive and dry skin types can simply dispense toner in their hand and pat onto the skin. I recommend using a reusable face round instead of disposable cotton swabs if you prefer not to use your hands as these are better for the environment.
A little bit of serum goes a long way. Dispense a small amount into hands and apply to skin in soft, upward, circular motions. Do not drip directly onto face as this is unhygienic and wasteful. Serums are used depending on age and skin care needs. Not everyone will need to use a serum. Wait 5 minutes before applying moisturizer.
Every skin type needs to moisturize, even those with oily skin. Some need to apply moisturizer multiple times a day, others only need a small amount once a day. With clean hands put a dab of moisturizer on cheeks, chin, and forehead. Softly massage in an upward circular direction without tugging on skin.
We all know the importance of wearing sunscreen. It is essential that we wear it everyday and reapply as directed on the bottle. Contrary to popular belief, all skin types and tones need sunscreen.
Cleanse skin with lukewarm water. If you wear makeup, make sure you use a gentle makeup remover. I do not recommend makeup wipes, they are not good for the environment.
Chemical exfoliants can make your skin more sensitive to the sun so depending on the product you use, you may be exfoliating at night.
Using a face round at this step may be more helpful. If you don't wear make up simply dispense some into hand and pat on the face.
Choose a serum that fulfills your unique skincare needs. Dispense a small quantity into your hand and gently massage into skin.
Not everyone needs eye cream but if you do choose to use it, make sure you choose one that caters to your individual needs. Dispense very small amount and gently pat around eye with third finger.
Moisturize with regular moisturizer or night cream. Night cream can be used depending on age and skin type. Be sure to choose a cream that meets your individual needs.
Essences can be spritzed onto skin after toning if desired. Masks can be relaxing and help us feel refreshed. If using a mask it would be applied after cleansing and exfoliating. Some people require medications, spot treatments, peels, and retinols. I suggest consulting a Dermatologist about certain extras, when you should use them and how often. Always listen to your skin.
